Process of Page Five & Six

Process description
Page five and six are the abyss that connects the two worlds through a vortex, the main color is the black night. In the initial sketch, I drew the entire abyss appear in the form of diagonal, which can reflect the left side of the ocean and right side of the sky, also could maximize the area of black. The lines in the whole picture are obvious and the colors are bright and gradual. Thus, in the second painting, I still use the same proportion of the area and the color, but the disadvantages are the middle abyss part is too small; the other colors are much vivid than the black, and the edges are too sharp and clear.
Important contexts
Gillian Fortson’s design ‘Abyss Painting’ doesn’t use a lot of colors, mainly through lines to create a sense of distance. So, in my final design, I applied the same idea to create a sense of oppression in the abyss by adding multiple layers using the same color. ‘Down The Abyss Of The Skull’ by Shue 13 uses a different method to display depth by comparing light colors with black. I was inspired to simplify the choice of colors but still retain the sapphire and fluoro pink as the basic colors.
